How’s your energy level these days? Do you feel exuberant and eager to live your life, or are you dragging along barely making it? Perhaps you’re somewhere in the middle? Do you desire more energy and peace? With all of the stressors we face in today’s world, it can be quite challenging to experience equilibrium on a daily basis. This very often leads to illness. As a result, many people need effective methods of self-care they can practice at home. Energy Medicine to the rescue! It’s not a drug or supplement. Rather, it’s a variety of gentle techniques and exercises that help your body and mind function at their best.
The human body is made up of exquisite, vibrating strings of energy that form into purposeful patterns and move along pathways which influence how we function. When our energies are flowing as designed, we feel healthy and emotionally vibrant. However, when there is an energetic block then the physical body becomes compromised which can cause dysfunction, illness or even disease.
This is where energy medicine is most beneficial. Its primary function is to get the body’s energy flowing for optimal health by eliminating energy blocks and balancing deficiencies and excesses. Energy medicine can address physical illness and emotional issues, and can also promote peak performance and high-level wellness. I’m passionate about it because it has helped me so much in my own life.
How do you administer it?
Energy medicine uses a variety of techniques from healing traditions such as acupuncture, yoga, qi gong, and kinesiology (which includes Brain Gym exercises). Flow, balance, and harmony can be non-invasively restored and maintained within an energy system by:
- Tapping, massaging, twisting, pinching or connecting acupressure points on the skin;
- Exercises or postures designed for specific energetic effects;
- Tracing the hand over the skin along specific energy pathways;
- Focused use of the mind to move specific energies;
- Surrounding an area with healing energies (one person’s energies impacts another’s).
Long recognized by Eastern cultures, subtle energy fields are now being detected, studied, and utilized by Western medicine. Energy medicine is both a complete system for self-care and a complement to other approaches to medical care. It is moving into our healthcare system quickly, powerfully, and none too soon. Let’s just say that the current medical model most definitely has room for improvement! According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, M.D., one of the most respected surgeons in the United States: “The next big frontier in medicine is energy medicine.” Dr. Oz is not alone in this opinion. There are more and more health professionals endorsing and utilizing energy medicine techniques in their practices.
In 2008, Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D. said, “The world is in fact changing faster than most of us imagined could be possible even a decade ago. While many of the changes are shaking us down to our foundations, a hopeful landscape is emerging. Energy medicine is one of its contours. It’s not just a fad in alternative health care. It is a fundamentally new way of grasping who we are.”
Uses of Energy Medicine
Some uses of energy medicine are to prevent illness, stimulate the immune system so it can overcome existing illness, balance hormones, improve digestion, relieve pain and headaches, release stress, support better sleep, improve memory and learning, balance hormones and to boost metabolism for natural weight management.
